The founder of Red Cross Society

Every year World Red Cross and Red Crescent society celebrates this day on 8th May.

It's idea came after World War I. The idea for an annual action that could take hold in the whole world...that would be a major contribution to peace. This initiative is known as the 'Red Cross Truce'. This truce was studied by an International Commission established at the 14th International Conference of the Red Cross.

The 15th International Conference of the Red Cross in Tokyo in 1934. The proposal kept above was approved here. But this report was studied by the League of Red Cross Societies after World War II, in 1946. They renamed it International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 1991.

The first Red Cross Day was celebrated on 8th May, 1948. In 1984 it's official title was decided as 'World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day'.

Every year this day is celebrated with different themes. It's theme for this year is 'UNSTOPPABLE'.
